Make-A-Test Project Blog

On a Happy note:
The IPod has been returned! I have talked to Ms. Sullivan and she is VERY impressed with all the student help that has resulted in the return of her missing IPod.
Proud of you all,

Instructions for the Make-A-Test project due 2-27-09 at the BEGINNING of class. Late work = ZERO. We will work on this in computer lab FRIDAY 2-13-09. Do NOT panic but START EARLY!

Your Mission:Make up a test using vocabulary and concepts from the chapter on Cell Reproduction. You can make two questions for some of the words. This test can, like many of my tests, have two or 3 different types of questions. Do not make up essay questions. It must be typed! It must be very – very neat and fit onto one side of one page! Try and make it as professional looking as possible. Use TAB key to line up your multiple-choice letters. Make your margins .5 inches all the way around. You may want to use a font size of 10 or 11 in places. Space questions and different sections out or use a divider line to separate. You may have to double or 1½ pace some sections to allow the test taker room to place answers. When completed, your test should have a minimum of 16 questions. You can make any type of test, true false, matching, fill in the blank and/or multiple choice (not including essay questions!) that you think will best test someone’s knowledge. Your test should have at least 10 multiple-choice questions. You must bring in FIVE copies of your test AND an answer key or test with answers. See me ASAP if you have questions or need help. Do not wait until the last minute to start or your printer or computer will act up! This project is due February 27 at the START of class. Please remember my policy about excuses!!! Plan ahead! I have 1 computer in my room that you may use. There are also some in the media center and our local library. The use of a USB thumb drives to save your work on is not a bad idea. You should use MOST if not all of the following words:

Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration & Fermentation Study Blog

Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration & Fermentation Study Blog
by Mr. Carrison - Gates Intermediate School - Scituate, MA

HELP! The Plants Are Outsmarting Me!
We farm plants but do not ourselves photosynthesize, we are hetertrophs!
OK, short week so not much to put on the blog. To be successful I would:
Read and take quality notes on 42-53
To SAVE paper and the environment please find the weekly vocab list below:
  • Cellular respiration
  • Fermentation – both types
  • Glucose
  • Heterotrophic or Heterotroph
  • Autotrophic or Autotroph
  • Lactic Acid
  • Mitochondria
  • Chloroplast
  • Chlorophyll
  • Photosynthesis
  • Pigment
  • Fungi Kingdom
  • Plant Kingdom
  • Animal Kingdom
  • Producer
  • Consumer

To be successful on Friday's test, consider:

  • Check out the chapter review in the back of the chapter
  • Make sure I know all the words used in ALL the handouts
  • Review and know all the crossword puzzle words
  • Review and know all the words and terms on the TWO guided reading sheets we did in class.
  • Know the Magnetic Word sheet cold!
  • Might go and check out the MCAS questions on respiration, fermentation and photosynthesis on the DOE's web site. Hum, wonder if I will have time to swipe some of these? Might even use some high school questions! They are review questions for information we cover this year in science. You might consider trying the following words for ALL subjects or Science, Technology, Engineering:

- Chlorophyll
- Photosynthesis
- Glucose
- Respiration

Wonder what site the above link takes you fellow heterotrophs too?

1. What are the by-products of the two types of fermentation?

2. Do you know what two molecules are needed for photosynthesis?

3. What is the formula for photosynthesis?

4. What does photosynthesis make?

5. What does photosynthesis store? How?

6. What organelle performs photosynthesis?

7. In which organelle do cellular respiration and fermentation take place?

8. Why do animal cells NOT have the ability to photosynthesize?

9. Where do plants get Carbon Dioxide from to perform photosynthesis.

10. Ask questions in class about the information you do not understand that is covered on the 4 worksheets we worked on in class!!!

Coupon - Have 3 pages of QUALITY notes from
the two chapters. Have each page signed by a
parent
AFTER they view your notes and offer
suggestions on how to improve them.
