What? Me study??? Why is Tiki staring at me???

Why is this happening to me?

I'll study later after a quick sniff, long nap, long walk and a few bone treats!

Happy New Year!!!

Cell Function Study Guide created by Mr. Carrison with the help, advice and supervision of Mr. Chris Robotham

1. What is the process that gives off energy by breaking down nutrients at the cellular level:
Aerobically -
Anaerobically -

2. How many blood cells a MINUTE are replaced in your body? 100 – 10,000 – 100,000 or more?

3. What is the number of skin cells per sq cm on your skin? They are replaced ____________ per day! Are you glad Mitosis is so accurate!!!

4. Gametes = ____________________ = _____________________ = _____________________ = ____________

5. What are the threadlike structures made up of DNA? They are made up of many genes or better yet packets of genes.

6. What is the name for diffusion in a cell where no energy is used? Way in which products are moved across a living membrane WITHOUT the cell having to provide any energy to make it happen.

7. How is active transport different from passive transport?

8. List the two processes that we studied in class that occur in the mitochondria.

9. Do you know the difference and similarities between osmosis and diffusion?

10. Fancy word for – all the thingies in a cell – group name for all the structures in a cell – chloroplasts, nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum are all examples of this fancy word!

11. What is the difference between an atom and a molecule?

12. Do you know the major three particles that make up an atom?

13. Do atoms make up molecules or do molecules make up atoms?

14. I would have a simple chart of meiosis vs. mitosis in my notes – do you ? WHY NOT?

15. Hum, might you also have a chart showing the differences and similarities of the 2 different types of fermentation?

16. Hum, hum, hum, might you also have a chart or table of sorts showing cellular respiration vs fermentation???

17. Da, have you read the chapter? 118 to 141???

18. Might you review some of the cell organelles from the last chapter? Flash highly recommends this!!!

19. Flash also says the answer to # 12 on both copies of the test is “A”

20. Big deal mitosis and meiosis – what is the single MAJOR difference?

21. What the heck is ATP? It is used how?

22. Cellular respiration is.................

23. The opposite of passive transport is?

24. What are the 4 phases of Mitosis? Can you put them in the correct order?

25. What the heck is interphase?

26. In about 10 words or less what happens in each of the above 4 phases?

27. In class this week we had how many demos? What were they each about? Why did Mr. C take the time to do each?

28. Both cellular respiration and fermentation are process for a cell to access what type of stored energy from food?

29. When Tiki is tormenting society and chasing Flash, why do his muscles sting a bit after an energetic prolonged stalking attack on poor Flash???

30. Did you take the time to organize your notes? Do all the worksheets handed out this week make sense to you?
