into a Word doc so yu donot waste a lot of paper and ink!

OK, here is a brief study guide for the test on Monday 4/4/11

  • Flash thinks you should really check over the crossword puzzle and pay attention to the TITLE!
  • We worked on notes last week with examples on the "whiteboard" - have you used this style to simplify this weeks reading and notes
  • Did you bother to write down my easy way to take notes on heterozygous and homozygous?  Could I have taken notes in any less words?  Did this simple way make more sense that your style?  Remember that often times less is MORE when it comes to note taking.
  • Might check over your guided reading packet
  • What did the father of genetics call genes?
  • What is the relationship between genes and chromosomes?
  • What organelle is the above located in?
  • Lots of questions on homozygous, heterozygous, purebred and highbred.  Do you know the difference?
  • How are recessive traits indicated using a Punnett Square?
  • What are and do you know all the nitrogen bases?
  • We covered mutations in class today.  What notes should you have taken?  How many types are there?
  • What's up with chromosomes, pairs and gametes and how the relate to us?
  • Phenotype and genotype are not going away.  Do you know which witch is which?
  • Mitosis and Meiosis sound a lot alike to me.  Do you know the difference?  What each does?  Do gametes have something to do with either, both or none?  What one does repair, replacement and handles growth?
  • What's up with parent and daughter cells?  What other fancy words to they relate to?
  • In the week's reading the number 35,000 was mentioned.  So what?
  • What the heck is an organelle?
  • Which organelle handles power (converting foods to energy), which makes proteins, which controls the cell and stores the precious genetic code.
  • Can you define gamete, adaptation and other key words of the chapters?
  • Might review your notes from the last test
  • Can you do a Punnett Square?  You better!
  • We had a presentation on Japan - what did you learn?  Might want to have some notes from Thursday!
  • What are the sex cells in plants called?  In mammals they are know as egg and sperm but what are they called in plants?
  • In a major way gametes and normal cells are different, do you know the answer?
  • Not a lot on messenger and transfer DNA so I would not spent much time on this section.  But you should know what each does for a job.
Best of luck on Monday and enjoy the weekend,
Mr. C
