Porifera & Coelenterates Study Guide

Use this study guide wisely. I hope you are entering into your notes any information you are unsure of after attempting to answer some of the questions found below. This is an excellent way to test your knowlege on what you will find on tomorrow's test. After tomorrow's test we have only two more tests before the term closses. Let's finish up strong! Progress reports come out tomorrow. Several of you could benifit by having some good news such as acing the science test to tell your parents!

Ok, lets get started! I'm doing this without looking at the test. Doing this from memory and you know what that means!

a. Do you remember the differnece between populations and a community? You should!

b. There is a MCAS question on heredity.

c. Know the latin and common names for the animal phyluma.

2. How many layers are in a sponges body?

3. How many layers in a coelenterate body?

4. Identify the phylum of each of these organisms: 1) jellyfish, 2) hydra, 3)coral, 4)sea anemone 5) sponge 6)Flash the wonderhound 7) porteguese manawore 8)earthworm 9)planaria

5. Define sessile, and name 3 animals that are sessile in its adult stage.

6. What is the difference between photosynthesis and respiration? This is a review question from the MCAS questions on the Dept of Ed's web site! Check it out???

7. What you use to wash dishes with? a)sponge with spongin, b)sponge with spicules, c) flatworm d)hydra feet

8. A sponge is poris. That means it has what?

9. A-B-C-D-E... What comes next?

10. Describe the terms "community" and "population".

11. Describe gemmules and their advantages.

12. Describe the life cycle of coelenterates.

13. What is odd about the mouth of a coelenterate?

14. What are 3 examples of coelenterates that we might find off the coast of Scituate?

15. Do you remember dominant and recessive traits? You should! Check out the MCAS questions at the DOE www site.

16. What are the 3 worm phyla?

17. What is the difference between regeneration and fragmentation?

18. Know all the differences between a hydrostatic skeleton, an exoskeleton, and an endoskeleton.

    Well... ah, ummmm ah its a little after 5:00 and no study guide as yet. I'm not one for last minute stuff so I do not know what to say! Flash and I are on our way out for a high adventure. We will take a look for the study guide in my email when we get back.

    Because of you Flash and I have to go walking! I ate 4 Twinkies today and think I gained 3 lbs! Doh!!!
